As part of efforts to guarantee the protection of consumers from all forms of unwholesome practice and ensure their satisfaction, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), has recovered about 50 million naira for consumers.
The amount which was recovered as compensation and out right refund of payment for returned substandard goods were recovered by the Agency within a period of one month of mediation.
The General Manager of the Agency Barrister Afolabi Solebo made this known today while giving account of LASCOPA’s activities.
Barrister Solebo adviced consumers in the State to be more painstaking in checking for products details whether in the shelves or otherwise before purchases.
He also adviced retailers to ensure a routine check of the state of their products before display so as to facilitate immediate removal of the expired products.
The General Manager of LASCOPA gave details of the beneficiaries of the refund to include Butterbust Global Foods Ltd, who bought 100kva generating set from C. Woermann (Nig) Ltd to the tune of 7m. The product malfunctioned immediately it was purchased. It was returned to the company with the mediation from the agency a total value for the purchase of the product was refunded.
Others are Biaxial Project Solution Ltd versus automobile company, LASCOPA through mediation assisted in the recovery of the sum of 7.6m for the purchase of a defective vehicle.
Mr Showumi Brothers Co was refunded the sum of N653,200 for the purchase of defective white cement he purchased.
The Agency also assisted Mr. P. A Sanwo-Olu to also a sum of N20. 900k from an automobile company for the purchase of defective vehicle. With the intervention of the agency, the sum was refunded to the buyer.
The General Manager therefore urged members of the public to always channel their complaints to the agency through the available social media platforms adding that LASCOPA services are free.
