The newly appointed Executive Secretary of Lagos State Law Reform Commission (LAWRECOM), Mrs. Umul-Kulthum Ninilomo Bashar, has assured residents of the State to expect updated laws that will reflect the socio-cultural and economic needs of the people of Lagos, including a comprehensive review and removal of obsolete laws, elimination of anomalies as well as general simplification and modernisation of the Laws.
Speaking during her first interaction with staffers as the head of the Commission, Mrs. Bashar appreciated the State Governor for the confidence reposed in her and expressed commitment to contribute her quota to the development of Lagos State through purposeful Law Reforms, pledging to run the Law Reform Commission efficiently by ensuring a reform that will align with the dynamism of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration
While acknowledging the ingenuity of Mr. Governor in putting together an experienced Board of eminent personalities, headed by Mr. Kemi Phinero (SAN), for the Commission, the Executive Secretary declared her resolve to lead by example with a leadership style that accommodates all shades of constructive contributions towards achieving set goals.
Bashar reiterated her readiness to work hand-in-hand with relevant authorities to ensure the delivery of a Lagos State that is properly positioned to live up to its status as the commercial nerve centre of the nation and the foremost first-class public service that compares favourably in global best practices.
Linking the vision and mission of the Commission with the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, Bashar said, “LAWRECOM is uniquely placed at this time to add value to the agenda, especially with the wealth of experience and private sector perspectives of the State Commissioner and Attorney-General, the resourcefulness of the members of the Board, the expertise of the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in Civil, Commercial and Criminal Law”.
She acknowledged the tremendous work of the immediate past Executive Secretary and the team of officers who laid down the groundwork upon which she intends to build, just as she solicited the support of all the staff of the Commission in her new position.
