Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s endorsement lifted Ogun Governor-Elect Dapo Abiodun to Victory Saturday and abruptly halted the long rise of embattled Governor Ibikunle Amosun, for the past 4 years a darling of the establishment.
Osinbajo rewrote the political playbook in Ogun state with Dapo Abiodun’s win, beating the candidate of the APM, and current governor who raised considerably more money and executed a bullying campaign centered around hate, extensive television advertising, cultivating support among a few leaders across the state and employing divisive grassroots organizing. All of that proved fruitless in the face of Osibanjo’s endorsement, which helped propelled Mr. Abiodun from relative obscurity to the winner.
Voters in multiple political parties told Unilag Efiwe News prior to the elections that they are fired up and ready to cast their ballots last Saturday. Prof Yemi Osinbajo is a big reason why.
Enthusiasm about the elections was at its highest point in at least 20 years, buoyed by large numbers across the state who say the Vice president will be a major factor in their vote. Below are VP Osinbajo’s pictures on the campaign trail.
